A dirt lot screams one thing to us: opportunity! Our client had recently moved to Bakersfield, CA, from the south & had acquired a brand new house. The home had everything our client wanted except for one thing, the backyard was completely blank! Our client dreamed of a tropical oasis that would be garden she could use for entertaining & for escape after a long, hard day at work. Tasked with transforming this blank slate into a lush, landscape design, we got right to work.
The central feature of the landscape was the large, free-form pool design. We complimented the pool using a sculpted stone waterfall that cascades down into the pool. This provided a dramatic focal point for directly outside the main window views. We used our granite overlay to create the pool deck, in order to create a more natural hardscape. We also created a matching spa, with surrounding bench seating, to really capture the resort-feel that our client desired.
Neighboring the pool, we created a fabulous outdoor kitchen with a plaster finish & concrete countertop. It offers bar seating for guests & even accommodated our client’s BBQ as she was very partial to incorporating it into the new kitchen. The new outdoor BBQ is a feast for the eyes! Also very close to the outdoor kitchen is the productive garden which is functional as well as beautiful.
Even on cold winter nights, the garden has an appeal as we created a beautiful outdoor firepit using a mixture of sculpted stone & plaster finish. It’s just right for bench seating as well so there are plenty of places to relax in the garden.
Along with all of these elements, we added hundreds of plants as well as dozens of large palms & trees to enclose the space & give a more intimate feel to the landscape design. Looking at the pictures, it is hard to imagine the blank, dirt lot was there only a few months ago. Our client is in love with the garden & so are all her guests!
