Landscape Design: A Private Residence Offers ‘WOW’s Around Every Turn

Our client had recently purchased a home in an older area of Bakersfield & was desperately wanting to give the entire property a makeover. Our client knew that she wanted an outdoor living space for family gatherings, a low-maintenance garden, & plenty of areas to relax after a long day.

We began the transformation by gutting a large majority of the existing landscape. We made sure to leave the property’s existing trees because they were well-established & added tons of natural shade. Next, we began by focusing on our client’s outdoor living space. We added a beautiful outdoor kitchen island & a stunning fireplace. For the outdoor kitchen island, we used a classic stucco finish & for the fireplace, we contrasted that with a richly colored natural stone. We carried the look of the fireplace out to the front of the property by adding entryway columns & a beautiful wood gate.

Next, we began to create a number of garden “rooms” throughout the property. Each space has a unique feel & draw. One has a beautiful ceramic fountain, while another has a stunning, natural granite statue of Buddha. A key centerpiece to the rear landscape was a specimen fountain that adds the relaxing sound of falling water to the entire backyard. As a backdrop to the tiered fountain, we created a living wall utilizing pots mounted to a custom metal structure.

In the front & rear landscape, we used a beautiful synthetic turf thatch that adds a lush feel to the entire property. This also dramatically reduced our client’s water consumption & weekly maintenance needs. Finally, we added a dynamic planting palette to the landscape filled with a myriad of colors & textures to catch your eyes at every turn.
